Lust after Leather Ladies!

The trends took a turn for the uber sexy on the runways for Autumn / Winter 2011 with Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton and Mark Fast all showing leather. Some leaning towards the fetish side with lace up bodices and mixing textures with suede and sheer lace panels. Others used just a bit of slicked up pvc to give an outfit an edge. Here is some inspiration:

As you can see leather can work in so many ways, I love that the texture stands out and can give any outfit a sexy edge. I personally love the accessories and having a leather item as a key piece. A leather boot, bag or jacket can make an outfit. The celebrities are also a fan of the leather trend:

Abbey Clancy                                                                       Pixie Lott

Ashley Olsen                                                                                                                     Sienna Miller

Kate Moss

On these every day outfits, leather gives the look that Je ne sais quoi! To add some leather to your life see some of the key items available this season:

Hope you like my choices here, remember real leather is an investment; you buy now and you wear for life, so it’s worth picking some key items that won’t go out fashion like a great jacket, bag or pair of boots. If you just want to try out the trend there are some great pvc and ‘faux’ versions on the High Street at much cheaper prices, especially at H&M and Primark. XOXO

  1. I esp. like the Alexander McQueen examples: in keeping with McQueen’s best legacy, they have that air of the past or the future, very shapely and elegant.

I’m not so keen on the Mark Fast interpretation– a bit too Alexander Wang-y for my tastes, maybe!

But I do love the leather look, in all its variations. With the newer techniques for making a patent sheen, plus the use of synthetic fabrics on the runway and off, the choices are greater than ever before. I love the ‘quilted’ look too– it gives the option of a more antiquated or sweet spin, for people who don’t want to look too much like an ‘urban warrior.’
